Ek Balam is a name in the Mayan language, formed by ek ’, with which the color black is called and which also means“ star ”or“ star ”; and balam, which means "jaguar". It can then be translated as "jaguar-dark-o negro".Its history begins approximately from the year 300 BC, until the arrival of the Spanish. It was a capital with great wealth, with a population of 12 to 18 thousand inhabitants in its main nucleus. It has 45 structures and is surrounded by two concentric stone walls. These walls were for defense and for access control. The structures have various architectural styles, but there are details that make them unique, such as images with wings that resemble angels.

We explore Valladolid, where we can see the architecture of the Colonial era. Called the “Pearl of the Orient,” Valladolid rebelled against injustice in 1947 in the War of the Castes. The Mexican Revolution began here in 1910. Valladolid is also known for its excellent cuisine and beautiful Colonial buildings, such as the Church of San Gervasio and the Temple of Santa Ana.
